EGERTON VILLAGE DESIGN STATEMENT Thank you for visiting the Design Statement site. We are in the throws producing a document which will be used by developers and decision makers to demonstrate what any new development should be like in Egerton. We are not expecting there to be any substantial new development in the foreseeable future in the Parish, nor are we able to either encourage it or discourage it in a design Statement. Such decisions are made by others and through other documents, such as the Borough Local Plan. Nevertheless, many other Parishes in Ashford Borough are producing Design Statements and we believe that Egerton deserves to have its own. The purpose of a Design Statement is to identify the particular character of a place, such as what visible features make it special. It’s more than just the people, it’s the type and design of buildings and the layout of spaces, plus minor details such as the colour of bricks used. To produce a Design Statement typically takes about 3 years and a lot of survey work and we hope to produce a final document later during 2003. In the meantime we intend to keep this site posted on progress and to allow you opportunity to contribute comments and help shape the Design Statement. By using the above tabs you can look at the following: - An initial draft document (produced in January 2002) which gives you an idea of the sort of things the final document could be saying - however we promise to be far more pictorial in our final presentation. - A schedule of general responses we have had so far following the initial draft and initial questionnaire – we have printed these anonymously to protect the guilty. - A summary of the responses we received to the Autumn 2002 Questionnaire – showing support for and against the various suggestions. - A copy of the Autumn 2002 Questionnaire in case anybody missed out and still wants to have their say – responses can be either returned by email or printed off and handed to one of the Design Team. - A rogues’ gallery telling you just who are in the Design Team.
