REPORT OF INAUGURAL MEETING OF THE EGERTON FILM SOCIETY
HELD IN THE EGERTON MILLENNIUM HALL ON SUNDAY 9TH DEC 2001
AT 3.30PM
.

Over 70 members attended the Film Society's first meeting together and screening of the video "Santa Claus - The Movie"

The audience was welcomed by Derek Budd & Richard King who explained the aims of the Society. Guidelines and legislation supplied by the BFFS had provided the foundation for the formation of the Egerton Film Society, which would be run as a sub-committee of the existing TeleCottage committee. It was considered that under the control of the TeleCottage computer facilities, Film society members would benefit from an exciting new age of "On-Line" technology.

Mark Stevenson with Derek Budd at the Inaugural meeting of the Film Society
Mr Mark Stevenson, Director of Kent based "Stevenson's Wooden Rocking Horses" of Biddenden, officially opened the meeting by giving a talk on how his company had been invited to supply many of the toys and props for the making of Santa Claus - The Movie in the early 1980's.

He brought along examples of his world famous hand-crafted rocking horses together with archive pictures (which included a Ferrari model sold at over £14,000!)

It was indeed fascinating to contrast the simplistic craft of carpentry alongside early computerised robotic techniques used in the film. His talk was illustrated as a "Power-Point" presentation on the newly acquired Sony Video Projector and Laptop computer sourced by founder-member Derek Budd.

In offering a vote of thanks to Mark, Derek (a Television Lighting Cameraman) recalled how his 39 year career in Broadcasting, had been inspired by his passion for cinematography. Film Members of the isolated rural community in Egerton were indeed fortunate to have the use of the wonderful new Millennium Village Hall together with its curtained stage, fixed projection screen and lighting facilities. It was felt that the Society should try to maintain the high quality now made possible by DVD and Dolby sound systems. It was agreed that funding should therefore be sourced to enhance public performances, thus enabling members to appreciate the ever-changing technical skills of the film industry.

The meeting closed after much appreciative discussion at 5.45pm.
